Privacy policy

What we collect today

• Server logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel) records standard request logs — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp — used for security and debugging, and retained briefly.
• Product analytics (PostHog). We measure which pages people visit so we know what's useful and what to fix. See the section below for exactly what this does and doesn't collect.
• Affiliate network tag (Impact.com). Impact.com's tracking tag runs site-wide so that retailer links are attributed correctly once affiliate partnerships go live. It records page impressions and link clicks and may set its own cookies, under Impact.com's privacy policy.
• Emails you send us. If you write to data@snowsift.com, we keep the correspondence to answer you.

How our analytics work

We use PostHog on public pages, served through snowsift.com and stored on PostHog's European infrastructure. It records a page view — the URL, referrer, approximate location derived from IP, browser and device type, and a random identifier kept in your browser (a first-party cookie plus local storage) so a returning visitor isn't counted twice.

Deliberately switched off:

• No session recording. We do not replay, film, or watch your screen.
• No autocapture. PostHog can log every click and keystroke target automatically; we disabled it. We record page views plus a small number of actions we write on purpose, listed in full below.
• No profiles for anonymous visitors. We don't build a person record unless you create an account (accounts don't exist yet), and we run no ad-network pixels.

The actions we record on purpose, in full:

• “Check price” clicks. When you click through to a retailer we record which product and which retailer, the listed MSRP, where the link sat in the list, what kind of page you clicked from, and what kind of site sent you to us — a search engine, an AI assistant, a social site, or none of those. It tells us which pages actually help people; it does not tell us who you are.

That is the entire list. If we start recording another action, it gets added here.

We never send names, email addresses, or anything you type into search or the Sift to analytics. Our own analytics cookie is first-party and used only for the counting described above, and we don't sell or share data. The Impact.com tag listed above is third-party and may set its own cookies.

One thing we'd rather state plainly than bury: analytics requests are served from snowsift.com rather than PostHog's own domain, so the tracker-blocking lists that stop most analytics do not stop ours, and clearing cookies alone won't either, because the visitor identifier is also kept in local storage. If you'd rather not be counted, use your browser's Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control setting — we honour both and will not record you — or clear site data for snowsift.com. The site works exactly the same either way.

What we don't do

• No retargeting pixels, ad-network display tracking, or profiling for advertising. (The Impact.com affiliate-attribution tag described above is a separate thing.)
• No session recording, screen capture, or keystroke logging.
• No selling, renting, or sharing of personal information. Ever.

(Our internal admin console — not accessible to visitors — uses authentication cookies for the site operator only, and is excluded from analytics.)

What will change, and how we'll handle it

• Price-drop alerts & accounts (planned). If you opt in, we'll store your email address and alert preferences to send you the alert you asked for. Every email will include one-click unsubscribe (CAN-SPAM compliant), and we won't send marketing email without separate, explicit consent.
• Affiliate links (planned). When affiliate links launch, clicking one takes you to the retailer, whose own privacy policy then applies. Our affiliate disclosure explains the model.

Your choices & contact

Since we hold almost nothing about visitors, there's usually nothing to delete — but if you've emailed us and want that correspondence removed, or have any privacy question, contact data@snowsift.com and we'll respond promptly.
