The DOA has been the default answer to "what board should I get" for the better part of a decade, and the Super DOA sits above it at $220 more. The usual explanation is that the Super is the stiffer, more aggressive version. The published specs say something more specific than that — and less flattering to the flex-index theory.

Flex is not where the money goes
Half a point. That's the entire published flex difference between a $580 board and an $800 one. If you came here expecting the Super DOA to be a plank, it isn't — it sits half a step up a ten-point scale.
What actually changes is everything under the topsheet.
The layup goes from Bi/Bi to Tri/Tri. Biaxial fibreglass runs fibres in two directions; triaxial runs them in three, adding torsional stiffness — resistance to twisting along the board's length. That's what holds an edge on firm snow when you're loading one end of the board harder than the other. It's a different property from longitudinal flex, and it's why the Super DOA can feel considerably more locked-in while barely registering as stiffer when you flex it by hand in a shop.
The core changes. The DOA runs CAPiTA's P2 Superlight core; the Super DOA runs the 3D Thermopolymer Starship core. CAPiTA publishes no density or damping figure for either, so treat this as a difference in construction rather than a quantified one — but swapping the core within a model family is a substantial change, not a sticker, and damping is usually what it targets. Damping is what stops chatter at speed: the difference between a board that goes quiet at 60km/h and one that starts hunting.
Sidewalls. The Super DOA publishes Fortress aramid-bound sidewalls; the DOA doesn't publish a sidewall spec at all. Aramid at the sidewall is a damping and impact-resistance choice, and it's consistent with the rest of the Super's build.
The base. Quantum Drive against HyperDrive ADV XT. CAPiTA names both but publishes neither the material nor the structure, so nothing on the spec sheet ranks them for glide. If a faster base is what you're paying for, this is the one line of the comparison the published data can't settle.
Read together, the Super DOA is not a stiffer DOA. It's a differently built board — triaxial layup, different core, aramid-bound sidewalls — that happens to be marginally stiffer as a side effect. Those are the changes a brand makes when it's chasing damping and torsional rigidity.
The length range is the quiet dealbreaker
The Super DOA gives up ground at both ends of the table, and that is not a footnote. A rider who sizes into a 150 has no Super DOA to buy, and at 164 the standard model is the only option — though the Super's wide sizes do run to 163. CAPiTA has built the Super around the middle of the range, where the majority of buyers sit, and left the tails to the standard model.
The wide versions shift the picture again, so check your size against the table before you get attached to a board.
A note on the effective-edge numbers
You'll see effective edge published for both boards, and the Super DOA's figure is larger. Don't read that as a shape difference.
Effective edge scales with board length, and we anchor size-varying specs to each board's shortest published length so different-sized readings of the same product don't contradict each other. The DOA's shortest length is 148cm and the Super DOA's is 152cm — so the comparison is a 148 against a 152, and most of the gap is simply those four centimetres. At a common length, the two boards' effective edges sit far closer together than the headline numbers suggest.

Which one
The DOA if you ride park and all-mountain at moderate-to-fast speeds, if you're a lighter rider, or if you need a length outside 152–160 (155–163 in the wides). It has been the benchmark all-rounder for a reason, and nothing in the Super's spec sheet makes the DOA worse than it was.
The Super DOA if you ride fast on firm snow, if you're heavier and overpower a mid-flex board, or if you're already on a DOA and your complaint is chatter at speed rather than a lack of stiffness. The triaxial layup, the core and the aramid sidewalls are what you're paying for, and chatter at speed is what that kind of build is aimed at.
If your complaint is that the DOA feels too soft when you press it, the Super DOA will disappoint you — half a point won't fix that, and you want a different board entirely.
